Testimonials

St. Mary’s is so proud of its small setting with a big heart. Our children gain so much from going to St Mary’s. Just read what some of our alumni, teachers & parents have to say:

What Our Alumni Say:

Anna Bacovin - Class of ‘08

“What I love most about St. Mary School is that it is one big family. The teachers really care and they make every effort to keep you on God’s path. Everyone is friends throughout the classroom. I enjoyed playing basketball in a competitive Catholic league. The things I learned at St. Mary’s have helped me transition easily into my first year at Notre Dame High School. The memories and friends I made at St. Mary’s will be a part of me forever.”

Kyle Daniels - class of ‘08

“St. Mary’s School offered many great things that helped me prepare for high school and enjoy my time there. It offered so many clubs and extracurricular activities. I had a hard time deciding what to do. They were easily accessible and open to everyone. The other thing I liked about St. Mary’s was the size. The small size of the classes allowed students to receive the personal attention they needed in academics. The smaller sized classes also made the school a close-knit community where everybody knows everybody and you feel appreciated and involved. It was easy feeling welcomed as the new kid last year in such a small school.”

Mike Shockley - class of ‘03
Holy Cross High School ‘07
Lehigh University ’11, B.S. Bioengineering

“As a senior in college looking back on SMS, I cannot help but get nostalgic about my years there. Much is exactly as I remember it—the old red brick building seemingly hand-in-hand with the church next door, the culture of acceptance and faith, and the focus on wholesome academics. However, SMS has also done an excellent job of keeping up with the times, fully preparing its students through the wholehearted integration of technology, curriculum advancements, and head-on tackling of controversial moral issues in today’s society. In short, it prepared me superbly for high school, which jump started my preparation for college, which jump started my preparation for the future.”

What Our Families Say:

Lori Shockley (Parent)

Mike – class of ’03
Matt – class of ’06
Steph – class of ’10

So many things have changed in the 16 years that we’ve been part of the St. Mary’s family. Classes have been as big as 30 students, and as small as 8. Total school enrollment has been over 200, and under 100. The parish center was built, the Sisters of Mercy retired, computer class became part of the curriculum, and after-school clubs were formed (and enthusiastically embraced by the students!). But the core values of the school remain unchanged, the pursuit of academic excellence continues, and the school mission “Do your best – Respect all people – Put your faith into action” is still the foundation of each day. St. Mary’s integrates current technology and educational practices, while continuing to provide our children with a solid faith-based method of dealing with the challenges they face.

Connie Maxson (1958 graduate and parent of St. Mary graduates):

“I am the parent of two St. Mary’s School graduates. Anne (1988) and Mary (1991) credit St. Mary School with providing them with a strong academic background and with instilling in them the importance of considering the needs of others. They grew in confidence, leadership and commitment during their years at St. Mary’s. Both girls attended high school at Villa Victoria Academy. Anne received her B.A. and M.S.W. from Boston College and became a counselor. Mary received her B.A. from Dartmouth and her L.L.D. from Boston College Law School and is an attorney.

I’ve recently been going through boxes of mementos with the girls. Many of the things we saved were from their years at St. Mary’s school and were related to religious activities and holidays. These things are very special to me as a parent. I wouldn’t have them if my children hadn’t gone to a Catholic school.

Thank you to St. Mary’s for helping to mold my daughters into remarkable young women.”

What our teachers say:

Kelly Meyer - Library, Media, Technology Teacher:

“As a parent of three St. Mary’s children, I feel very blessed to have them at such a wonderful, caring, and loving school. The faculty and staff get to know all the children and look out for their well-being and really put in the extra mile. They love their jobs and it shows. The school also offers so many extra curricular activities to help the children broaden their horizons and think outside the box. I love the faculty and staff and would recommend the school to anyone thinking of sending their children to a catholic school.”

Mrs. Rita Bianchi -  4th Grade Teacher:

“I have been teaching at St. Mary School since 2000. At that time, the school at which I had been employed, St. Joseph in Beverly, closed. I was hired by Mrs. Moss to teach Pre-K and remained in that position for three years. For the past 5 years, I have been the first grade teacher and have loved every minute of it!  This year I will be the 4th Grade Teacher.  I consider my teaching a ministry, not just a profession. At St. Mary School, I am able to fulfill that ministry. St. Mary School has high academic standards and it is a caring, compassionate community.
