Specials
At St. Mary’s, we are so proud to offer to our children a well rounded education that includes the following specials that our pre-kindergarten through 8th grade will receive:
Spanish:
At St Mary’s, we offer “Introduction to Spanish” from Pre-K through 8th grades. Our curriculum combines basic Spanish vocabulary and Hispanic culture and conforms with the Diocese of Trenton World Language Curriculum. Our goal is to lay the ground work for a bilingual life for our students.
Technology:
Our computer lab contains 30 PC’s along with a Smart Interactive Whiteboard. All classes visit the lab once a week for 50 minutes. We work with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Appleworks painting and drawing, and Typing Master. We create slideshows, basic Web pages, trading cards, complete Web Quests, and design books to name a few projects. We also focus on typing skills using Type to Learn lessons and Typing Master. The classes take typing courses, tests, and play a game called TYPE-O which is similar to bingo in order to learn how to properly type using homerow. We strive to prepare our children for a technological future with a well-read background.
Library:
A school without a library is no longer a school. With today’s technological abilities, school libraries are becoming extinct. St. Mary’s knows and understands students still need a library. The library is part of the Media center of the school. It contains approximately 5,000 books with them being updated monthly. We have books ranging from Pre-K titles to Middle School titles. Every class visits the library once a week for 50 minutes. We read aloud, complete activities, and create our own books to showcase as well.
Art Education:
The art experience and the knowledge of the arts is a vital part of a student’s education. Art will aid in students’ creativity throughout their lives. Art classes help each student know the beauty and gifts of God’s creation. The children are able to express their creativity and communicate their ideas, thoughts and feelings through the use of drawing, painting, colored pencils, markers crayons, water color, tempera paints, paper mache, and tissue collages. They are introduced to art history: the styles, techniques, and artists from each period.
Physical Education:
The St. Mary’s school physical education program is designed to teach leadership, good sportsmanship, and lifetime skills to encourage good physical fitness. The physical education classes help support basic movement skills, team and individual activities through fitness. The classes encourage life time recreational activities that will link to better health concepts, safety, and stress management. Classes stress healthy eating and regular exercise that will reduce the risk of heart disease, high cholesterol, cancer, osteoporosis, and other health conditions. The students keep active by playing indoor and outdoor games which encourages good cardiovascular fitness. Class rules and safety are important factors to ensure a safe environment. Here at St. Mary School, the children learn that hard work and desire are requirements to become physically fit.
Music:
Music at St. Mary School provides all students with exposure to music from the beginning of music to music of modern day. Classes include, dance, opera, musicals, performance, instrumental development, composition, musical history, seasonal music, Battle of the Bands, performance and many other musical opportunities. Our musical program is intended to develop student love of music and musical awareness.
