Community Service

Here at St. Mary’s, we not only provide an excellent academic atmosphere for our children to grow but we also provide many opportunities for their hearts and souls to grow. We do many outreach services to our local, national and world communities. Examples of these services are listed below:

Holy Childhood Association: St. Mary school participates in this monetary collection sponsored by the Diocese of Trenton each year for children in 3rd world countries. This collection provides money for rice, milk, bread and school supplies for these children.

Kiwanis Builders Club: This club is part of an international organization and helps build competent, capable, caring leaders through the vehicle of service. Builders Club is a “student-led” community service organization that operates under school regulations and draws its members from the student body. The Levittown Bristol Kiwanis Club, composed of like-minded, service-oriented people from the community, serves as the club’s sponsor. Please visit www.buildersclub.org for more information.

Past and future projects include:

Sponsor Mother/Son Dance
Sell Earth Day shirts and invest profit in the school’s beautification project
Host an Easter Egg Hunt that will raise money toward this year’s Builders Club scholarship for an outgoing 8th grader
Plan a Mother’s Day Tea Party, which will honor moms, grandmas, aunts and other significant ladies
Volunteer at our parent club event, the Kiwanis-sponsored Sesame Place Run
Plan to stencil a 20′ by 30′ U. S. map on the playground
Host Father/Daughter Dance themed “A Knight to Remember”
Participate in an Autism Awareness Project being planned by one of our students
Host the “Change War”, raising funds for a good cause, for the group’s yearly monetary donation to a charity that makes a difference
Host an after-school reading hour for students
Collect can tabs for Ronald McDonald House
Plan to resume visits to play BINGO with the residents of Clare Estates, an assisted living facility

FIAT: Fiat is a club for girls in grades 5 to 8. The purpose of the group is two-fold: The first part of each meeting is Eucharistic Adoration, praying for those in need. The second part of the meeting is performing service to our school, parish and community through various projects.

Past projects have included:

Wrapping 120 silverware bundles for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, decorated with inspirational messages
Making 28 finger rosaries for our soldiers overseas
Baking cookies and preparing 96 care packs for the riders on the St.
Making 75 Valentines for the residents of Clare Estates Assisted Living Home and personally delivering them and visiting with the residents
Making handmade prayer books for four seminarians who have been “adopted” by the local Knights of Columbus group
Penny Walk: Student Council members coordinate this fun fundraiser! The children bring in as many pennies as they can and fill the gymnasium floor with the coins. The money raised through the penny walk is used to purchase gift cards for Thanksgiving baskets for families in need in our community.

First Way of Burlington County: At Christmas time we collect baby items for First Way of Burlington County which supports pregnant women in need. These items are brought in to school by the children and hung on the Christmas tree in the main hallway.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia: The profits from the Student Council Easter egg sale will go to the Children’s Hospital.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand: The PreK and 4th grade teachers wanted the children in their classes to get involved in a service project that they could relate to. Alex Scott was just four years old when she had her first Lemonade Stand to raise money for cancer research. Although Alex had cancer herself, she was already mature enough to be thinking of other people. Alex helped to donate a lot of money to cancer research. Even though she didn’t live long, she lived well. She gave of herself. She thought of others. Alex passed away when she was eight years old. She was a good example for our young students. She showed a lot of people that one person can motivate a whole lot of people to give up their time, and earn money for a worthy cause. Alex’s legacy is continuing as many organizations and schools sponsor her campaign.
It is our hope that you will help us motivate our students to participate in this important fundraiser. Last year, PreK and Builder’s Club raised approximately $900.00. This year we are setting a goal of $1200.00.

Food Pantry: The students and families of the school as well as the community donate periodically to our food pantry.

Clothing Drive: We donate used clothing, coats, linens, shoes, toys & stuffed animals to the needy.
